Mogadishu- The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia and Head of AMISOM, Ambassador Francisco Caetano Madeira congratulates the Federal Government of Somalia for hosting a highly successful Security Conference and Partnership Forum.
The two high-level meetings convened by the Somali President H.E Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed “Farmajo”, were attended by representatives from 25 countries, six multilateral organizations, heads of Somalia’s Federal Member States, and Benadir Regional Administration.
The security conference, which agreed to an “urgent development of realistic, conditions-based transition plan”, to transfer the national security responsibility from AMISOM, to the Somali security forces, was convened to review progress on security sector reform and the implementation of the National Security Architecture, which was endorsed by Somalia’s federal and state-level leaders in April 2017; and pave the way forward to contain violence and stabilize the country.
“I am confident that the deliberations in the last two days will provide the impetus needed in coming up with a comprehensive and workable transition plan,” Ambassador Madeira noted.
He commended the quality of discussions at the two meetings, saying that they effectively addressed the challenges, acknowledged the milestones already achieved in Somalia and pointed to the solutions required for the current challenges.
“These meetings were very important not only because they defined the security priorities, but they also brought together the partners, to discuss shared priorities, take stock of progress achieved in 2017, and review milestones to be achieved in 2018,” he said.
